2SickBastards
The artist duo, 2 sick bastards, from London plays with iconic images and well known logograms by that seting a critical light on brands and popstars. The works by 2SB are very complex, each character contains allusions on multiple prominent persons and cult figures of the pop-history or on political and economical celebrities. These associations merge together to create an explosive messenge. The spraypaintings by 2SB refer to current and controversial events by showing them from the very sarcastic and cynical perspective. They say: „[...]this planet is a sea of shit and we're wading through it to bring the best of the worst to you.”
In their works they often emerge black and white contrasts that are soften by shrill, bright colours. Each picture becomes a distinctive eyecatcher. The characteristic feature of these artists is the usage of graphic forms with definite outlines. In spite of the reduction to the essential or even because of it their works cause a strong recognizable effect on the viewer. Futhermore 2SB use the aesthetics of Pin-up and advertising posters, which is typical of Popart. The highlight of their work is the complementation of the icons by sophisticated puns and hidden details.
